Why this matters: our read
The Canadian weight sits largely in the short-film pairings: by the festival's own list the features are largely imports, with two of them Canadian-made.
Toronto After Dark has published its 2026 lineup, which it says comprises 14 feature premieres and 33 genre shorts, in a September 25 release. The premiere labels below are the festival’s own. It runs October 14 to 18 at Cineplex Scotiabank Theatre on Richmond Street West and at CineCycle on Spadina Avenue.
Brian Duffield’s Whalefall, from the United States, starts the festival as a Canadian premiere. Spain’s 5 More Minutes, Finland’s Red Snow and the American Hallowarrior are the other Canadian premieres among the main slate.
Two features are Canadian: Sam Scott’s Turn It Up!, an Ontario premiere, and Luca D’Andrea’s No Longer Humans, a North American premiere. No Longer Humans belongs to a three-film Late Night Programme that also includes Diego “Mapache” Fuentes’s Matapanki, from Chile, a Toronto premiere, and a world premiere from the United States directed by Casey Donahue. The festival says it pairs a Canadian short with every feature.
