Why this matters: our read

A Screamfest slot is a premiere, not a release date, so this is a first screening and says nothing yet about when or where the film opens.

Dread Central has premiered the teaser for “Wounds,” directed by Ron Krauss. Dread Central says the film has its world premiere at Screamfest on October 8 at 7:30 p.m. Pacific in Screen 4 of the TCL Chinese Theatre, with a red carpet beforehand.

Jack Kilmer plays Caleb Castle, a special-effects makeup artist at a struggling studio. Paris Jackson and Eric Roberts are among the cast. In the film’s setup, Caleb sees a brutal murder, and his drive for realism then pushes his work into darker territory.

Krauss wrote it with Ryan Leeder and Joshua Courtade, and Ira Houston produced. It was shot entirely on 35mm and is described by Dread Central as a love letter to independent horror in the vein of De Palma, Cronenberg and Carpenter.

Dread Central is our source for these details, and we have not seen the film.
